MALAYSIANS GET PSG INVITE
Hazriq, Rohisham, Haykal to turn out for French club in Rome
THREE Mokhtar Dahari National Football Academy (AMD) players will feature for Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) Under-13 team at the International Memorial Giuseppe Augello V tournament in Rome on June 21-24.
The three are Hazriq Haqqim Mohd Izham, Rohisham Haiqal Hashim and Mohammad Haykal Danish.
The Malaysian trio will turn out for the French club in tournaments before they are offered a contract once they turn 18.
Hazriq Haqqim, 13, who was named as the best goalkeeper at the Joinville Cup in France, last April, wants to prove his worth.
He hopes this opportunity will be a turning point for Malaysia’s other players to play overseas.
“Everyone knows the best of the best plays for PSG, I am excited and I will try my hardest to earn my spot in the team,” said Hazriq, who idolises Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea.
“I know the competition will be tough but not impossible. I hope
to perform to my utmost best to impress them and open doors for Malaysian footballers to play there.”
The trio will also get the opportunity to play against youth teams from European giants such as AS Roma, Lazio, Juventus,
Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid.
Education Minister, Dr Maszlee Malik said they are in full support of AMD’s efforts in unearthing quality players as well as making their mark on the international stage.
“Today we are happy to see our young players getting the opportunity to make their mark in Europe. It’s not easy to knock on the doors of big clubs such as PSG but I am sure their talent is good enough and they will achieve great results,” he said.
