From workaholic to proud mum

-

ICAN’T believe that it was just last year that I was “workaholic-Nurul”, working almost 24/7. But this year has taught me a lot, LOL. I wrote this article a few days before Raya when I had already packed my bags for balik kampung and prepared my duit raya packets for the children and the elders.

The-last-minute-Nurul was nowhere to be seen. I had even prepared five days of matching festive outfits for my little family! That was real motherhood.

I never once thought that I would be a clingy mum but I am. A proud one in fact. My boys have taken over my instagram feed more than anything else. But I can’t help it! I can’t stop gushing overthem.

There are days where I tend to get cranky at work when the workload gets crazy but, believe it or not, I still try to steal a maxi- mum of 15 minutes in between to go home.

Unlike most working mums out there, I’m grateful to have the flexibility of bringing my children to work on days when I want them around. The moment I see them, my heart is at ease. Something I’ve never experienced before. They just make me so happy!

Before Adam and Noah came into my life, I was always on the go. I was always out and about, working from one location to another. But now, things have changed so much. It doesn’t matter how much work is left to do in the office, I always try to be home by 6.30 pm to be with my family.

I no longer spend my nights binge-watching TV series or documentaries. I try as hard as possible not to bring any work home and I even have less of a social life these days, unless it’s work-related.

My focus has diverted entirely to my family, especially my children. Being a working mum isn’t so bad after all, as I consider being at Mimpikita as my me-time, just to keep my life in balance, in check and to stay sane.

My boys have taught me so much about patience. I think my patience level has amplified ever since I had them. Being a mother also means being selfless. A mother basically devotes her entire life to raising her children and providing the best for them. A mother puts her children over everything else. And being a mother also means to be “on-call” 24/7. This “profession” doesn’t give two hoots about whether you’re sick or tired. You need to always be on your toes just to make sure that your children get the best of what you can give.

Now I understand why mothers get extra sensitive when arguments occur with their children. Sometimes, when they are tired, the last thing they want is a stubborn child but beyond that, they have made countless sacrifices.

Now that my two boys are growing up, I wish I had more time to spend with them. Speaking of time, it is so important to have proper time management because there’s simply not enough time in a day!

I’ve been telling myself to quit working on weekends as five days a week in the office should suffice but no, I never listen to my own advice. It’s such a tough thing to do. I don’t know how most entrepreneur mums out there do it.

My prayer for every hard-working mother out there is that Allah grants you the highest place in Jannah for every sacrifice you make for your children.

Last year, during Raya, I was in confinement. This year, both Adam and Noah, my twins, turned one and coincidentally, their birthday was during Raya!

It was so exciting spending Raya in Johor this year and bringing them around to visit our relatives, especially with Mama handling Adam and Papa taking taking care of Noah. Hari Raya Aidilfitri from now on will be even better thanks to my little family.

Anyway, since the Raya season is still in full swing, I would like to take the opportunity to wish every Muslim in the world a blessed Hari Raya Aidilfitri!
