GOVT TO REVIEW DEPLOYMENT OF TROOPS TO SAUDI ARABIA
Malaysian troops sent to Saudi Arabia by previous administration, says Mat Sabu
THE government will review the stationing of Malaysian troops in Saudi Arabia, where they are on standby to evacuate Malaysians in war-torn Yemen.
Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu, known as Mat Sabu, said the presence of Malaysian troops in the kingdom, sent there by the previous administration, had caused the country to be dragged into the conflict in the Middle East.
He said Malaysia was not involved in offensive operations against Yemen.
“Malaysia has always adopted a neutral policy and does not favour the ideology of any major power. The government is involved in the Non-Aligned Movement and has been its chairman.”
He said the government would re-evaluate the matter and make a decision soon.
