‘PUBLIC SHOULD BE TOLD OF MISCONDUCT’
Scandals and corrupt practices should not be kept under wraps, says Kit Siang
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has defended his son’s (Lim Guan Eng) move to reveal scandals of the previous government. PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had advised Guan Eng, who is finance minister, to leave the job of revealing misconducts of the Barisan Nasional government to other ministers or agencies, and to focus on increasing foreign investor confidence.
Kit Siang, in a response, said even though the revelations had positive and negative implications, the public should be informed of any misconduct.
“We should discuss all misconducts, scandals and corrupt practices of the previous government. Things like that should not be kept quiet.”
He was asked to comment on Anwar’s advice to Guan Eng.
Guan Eng had said that there would be more revelations of scandals of the past government.
Kit Siang said there was nothing wrong in revealing misconducts as he had been doing it for the past 52 years.
“A minister who knows of a misconduct must reveal it, to avoid being asked why he kept mum.”
In another development, Kit Siang said the Anti-Fake News Act 2018 should be repealed, claiming that it was used only to protect the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) scandal.
“I support such law, but I am against those who approved it because it was not in the best interest of the people.”
He was speaking at a press conference to announce a new DAP member, community activist Heidy Quah, 24.
Present was Segambut member of parliament Hannah Yeoh.
Kit Siang received a donation from Ervin Devadasan, 12, for Tabung Harapan Malaysia.
Ervin had saved up to buy a drum set for six months, but changed his mind.
As at 3pm yesterday, Tabung Harapan Malaysia has collected RM88.36 million.
