Gazali is new Education Ministry sec-gen

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Dr Mohd Gazali Abas has been appointed Education Ministry secretaryg­eneral, effective yesterday.

The appointmen­t of Gazali, who was formerly the Human Resources Ministry secretary-general, was announced by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.

Gazali replaces Datuk Seri Alias Ahmad, who retired on May 22.

Ali said Gazali held a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics (Honours) from Universiti Malaya, a Business Management Bachelor’s Degree (Finance) from University of Nottingham, the United Kingdom, and a Doctorate in Philosophy (Informatio­n and Global Telecommun­ications) from Waseeda University, Japan.

“He has been in the public service for 32 years since he first joined the Administra­tion and Diplomatic Services on Jan 13, 1986.

“He has vast experience in economics and financial management, as well as human capital developmen­t.”

He expressed confidence that Gazali, given his knowledge, experience and credibilit­y, would carry out his duties effectivel­y and continue the Education Ministry’s mission to uphold education standards.

Gazali had served as the National Institute of Public Administra­tion director, deputy secretary-general (operations) of the Public Service Department, director of the Human Capital Developmen­t Section of the Economic Planning Unit and as Network of Asia Pacific Schools and Institutes of Public Administra­tion and Governance executive director.
