‘TENGKU RAZALEIGH MOST QUALIFIED TO LEAD UMNO’

Gua Musang Umno info chief says Ku Li has vast experience to restore party

- RAMLI IBRAHIM

TENGKU Razaleigh Hamzah only offered to contest for the Umno presidency as that is what the grassroots wanted, Gua Musang Umno information chief Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim said.

Therefore, he said questions about Tengku Razaleigh, known as Ku Li, going for the party’s top post at this stage of his political career, were irrelevant.

He said no one should doubt Ku Li’s ability to lead the party.

“There have been some comments made about his plans to contest.

“However, there is no need to doubt his ability as he has vast experience that can help us restore the party,” he said.

Syahbuddin, who is Galas assemblyman, said Ku Li had deliberated extensively before throwing his hat into the ring to contest for Umno’s top post.

He said while the grassroots were all for Ku Li, some Umno leaders from Kelantan, had from the onset, announced they would not support him.

“It doesn’t matter that these Kelantan leaders don’t support him. This is because there are many from other states who are behind Ku Li,” he said.

Meanwhile, the division secretary Tuan Mustapha Tuan Soh said Ku Li was the most appropriate leader to take the helm of Umno at this point.

He said Ku Li had no personal agenda in taking charge of the party apart from restoring it to its former glory.

“We are fully behind him and will support him all the way until he is elected, and beyond.”

Ku Li would be facing former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaludin for the party president’s post.
