‘Let MACC probe Umno links with 1MDB’
KUALA LUMPUR: Umno will let the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) carry out its probe into the possibility that the party had received contributions from 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).
Newly-minted Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he hoped that MACC would be transparent in the investigation.
“Let MACC probe into the matter. I hope it will be transparent in its investigation,” he said yesterday,
Umno’s account was frozen by MACC last week as part of its investigations into 1MDB, a state fund which has been embroiled in controversies due to allegations of moneylaundering and embezzlement worth billions of ringgit. In Putrajaya, Umno said it would send a letter of appeal to MACC today) to allow the party to withdraw a sum of money to pay party administration costs and workers’ salaries.
Its secretarygeneral, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, said each month, the party spent more than RM1 million on party administration, including salaries of more than 300 workers.
