Annuar urges those who lost to accept result and not sulk

-

KOTA BARU: Umno Information chief Tan Sri Annuar Musa said those defeated in the party polls should accept the outcome and look ahead instead of sulking.

Annuar, who lost the fight for the deputy president’s post, said candidates who did not make it should not bear grudges against the victors.

“There is no need to talk about being hurt just because you lost.

“The important thing is for those who have been elected to work hard in fulfilling the responsibility that has been given to them.”

Anuar said he was saddened to hear news that a former party comrade had chosen to abandon the party yesterday.

“I heard about the sad news... A comrade has decided to abandon the struggle by giving excuses.

“These are people who do not know the meaning of ‘rebuilding’... they only know how to take the easy path,” he said.

It was reported that former Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin had announced that she was quitting the party.

She had said that her decision was centred on the fact that Umno had lost its direction, to the extent it had been rejected by Malays.

In the party polls on Saturday, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was elected the Umno president for the 2018-2021 term.

Zahid, who is also Bagan Datuk Umno chief, garnered 99 votes to defeat his two main contenders — former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin, who secured 61 votes, and party veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who obtained 30 votes.

Negri Sembilan Umno Liaison Committee chairman and Rembau Umno division chief Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan won the fight for the deputy president’s post.

Mohamad was elected the deputy president after receiving 110 votes to defeat Annuar, who secured 47 votes.
