Bike helmet sold for RM48,000 goes viral

-

MELAKA: Collecting limited edition items is a lifestyle for some. From watches, handbags, stamps and cars to currency notes, collectors will go the distance to get their hands on items that catch their attention.

It is no different for a crash helmet collector from Terengganu, who wants to be known only as Kory.

His story went viral on Facebook after he sold a yellow Shoei Jack helmet for RM48,000.

His post garnered over 1,100 likes, 445 shares and 116 comments in less than six hours.

“I got the helmet from a friend and sold it to a man who collects motoring items from Kelantan.

“I managed to sell it for RM48,000, although the current value of the helmet is about RM70,000.

“The new owner is currently looking for one in grey. Limited edition helmets can be a longterm investment for the owners,” he said yesterday.

Motor accessory shop owner Mohd Rezuwan Basrah, 29, said he once sold a blue Shoei helmet for RM8,200 to a customer from Muar, Johor, two years ago.

“I was made to understand that the Shoei Jack special edition model was produced between 2004 and 2005. The helmets come in red, yellow, white, grey, blue, silver and black.

“I was not surprised when I heard that it sold for RM48,000, because collectors are willing to spend a lot of money as the value of limited edition items will definitely increase over time.

“The yellow, red and white Shoei Jacks are particularly limited and motorcycle enthusiasts are definitely envious of those who own them,” he said.
