MAN FOUND HANGED

Victim believed to be suffering from depression

AGOVERNMEN­T servant, who w a s b elieved to be suffering from depression, was found hanging from a tree in Kampung Tematu, Kota Sentosa, on Saturday.

The body of Augustine Nohey Jikat, 33, was discovered at his backyard at 7.20am by his elder brother, who alerted the police.

Padawan police district chief Superinten­dent Aidil Bolhassan said the victim was believed to have committed suicide a few hours prior to the discovery.

“The brother said he started looking for the victim as he felt something was amiss.

“The man cut the rope used by his brother to hang himself before calling the police.

“Based on preliminar­y investigat­ion, the victim had been depressed since a few days ago.

“Family members said the victim did not have problems with others and did not know the cause of his depression.

“He was last seen at 8.30pm on Friday during dinner at the house,” he said.

Aidil said the forensics team did not find any criminal element and the body was sent to Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case was classified as sudden death.
