RTD warns of licence scam

- By Safuri Kamarudin

BALING: If you come across a Facebook page offering a driver’s licence without the hassle of undergoing a road test, you can be sure it is run by a syndicate, said the Road Transport Department (RTD).

Baling RTD branch chief Mahyuddin Ahmad said about 50 people had fallen prey to the online scam.

He said the syndicate was also offering other services, like transferring vehicle ownership for motorists who could not locate the original owners.

“Do not fall for the scam as there is no shortcut in obtaining a driver’s licence. All applicants must attend driving classes and sit tests at driving institutions recognised by the RTD.

“Learner drivers must go through the normal process to get a licence,” he said yesterday.

“Do not believe posts that go viral on social media. The syndicates will use any means to get quick profits,” he said, urging victims to lodge reports.

He hoped the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would investigate the scam.
