Selangor aim to lift FA Cup

- Mansor Zulfaizan

coach Nazliazmi Nasir is determined to help his team win the FA Cup final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on July 7.

The 33-time Malaysia Cup champions qualified for their eighth final in the competition when they thrashed PKNS 5-1 on aggregate following a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s semi-final return leg at Shah Alam Stadium.

Nazliazmi attributed Selangor’s success to teamwork and determination.

The coach also thank his assistants Rusdi Suparman and Suhaimi Abdul Hamid for their help in turning Selangor into a respectable side this season.

“Frankly, I did not expect my team to reach this far in the tournament. However, everything fell into place after we defeated Terengganu (3-1) in the third round.

“We also managed to maintain our form during the recent Ramadhan period.

“I would like to thank our fans who stood by us even though we did not look promising earlier. I can’t wait for the final on Saturday... I want to create history,” said Nazliazmi.

The last time Selangor won the FA Cup was in 2009.

Nazliazmi hopes defender Willian Pacheco will be fit for the final after he suffered an injury on Saturday.

PKNS coach K. Rajagobal said: “The outcome would have been different had we scored in the opening minutes.

“My players gave their 100 per cent until the final whistle, but it was not enough to win the match,” said Rajagobal.
