Home sec-gen urges NRD to issue MyKad in 30 minutes

-

PUTRAJAYA: The Home Ministry has asked the National Registration Department (NRD) to look at how it can shorten the issuance of Mykad from 45 to 30 minutes.

The ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim, said since April 1, NRD had been issuing MyKad in 45 minutes compared with 24 hours before.

“I hope the excellent performance (of NRD) will not stop here.

“I want to see it taking up the challenge to get MyKad ready in 30 minutes in future,” he said at the excellent service awards presentation to 347 NRD employees.

Present was NRD director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah.

Alwi commended NRD for the launch of its mobile bus service, which allowed Malaysians to replace their MyKad in a hasslefree way.

The cards would be printed at any NRD office with the “distributed printing” hub status.

“NRD’s efforts will change the landscape of the department’s delivery services in line with its slogan, ‘Rakyat Di Hati JPN’ (Citizens in NRD’s Heart).”

Earlier Razin said more than 300 people had been detained and prosecuted for offences relating to MyKad from last year to February this year.

“The department is going all out to address the issue of fake MyKad by increasing enforcement and targeting syndicates and agents, as well as holders of fake identification card.”

In this respect, Razin said NRD had built a strong network with other enforcement agencies to share intelligence, and carry out investigations and enforcement under the National Blue Ocean Strategy initiative.
