-

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd’s “Oh Yeah! Campaign — Hartawan Emas” contest saw three people walk away with the grand prize of 1kg of gold worth RM180,000 each yesterday.

To enter the contest, held between Sept 8 last year and March 31, participants had to deposit a minimum of RM1,000 into their account.

Prizes were given out to monthly winners and a lucky draw was held for the three grand prize winners.

The three — Ariffin Sharif, from here, Abdul Kadier Sahib, from Bintulu, and Norzila Md Din, from Johor Baru — were given their prizes at the bank’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at its headquarters here yesterday.

The prizes were presented by Bank Muamalat chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid.

Redza said the campaign was aimed to encourage people to save money for their future.

He said, throughout the campaign, the bank gave away RM1 million in prizes.

He said the bank would continue the campaign as it had received good response.

The campaign attracted 12,107 new customers, with total deposits amounting to RM43.14 million, including by existing account holders.

Norzila said she learnt about the campaign when she went to her regular Bank Muamalat branch in Johor Baru.

“I was already an account holder, but I thought it was a good opportunity for customers to convert savings into gold.

“I never expected to win the grand prize.

“I will perform the haj next month, so this is a blessing.”

Ariffin said he opened an account with the bank upon learning about the campaign.

“I am planning to keep the gold in Ar-Rahnu, as advised by the bank staff, because it might be dangerous to keep the gold at home.”
