-

KUALA LUMPUR: Passenger traffic at airports operated by Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), including the Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (SGIA), increased 9.5 per cent year-on-year to 11.2 million last month, the highest growth for the year.

The airport operator attributed the higher traffic to the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday season and the two-week mid-term school break in the country.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, MAHB said international and domestic sectors recorded growth of nine and 10 per cent, respectively.

For the first half of the year, MA HB’s p a ssenger traffic recorded 5.2 per cent growth with 64.9 million passenger movements.

The international sector grew at a faster pace — at 8.3 per cent — compared with the domestic segment, which recorded 2.5 per cent growth, it said.

The Kuala Lumpur International Airport main terminal and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 recorded year-on-year growth of 6.7 and 12.5 per cent, respectively, while SGIA’s total passenger traffic rose 9.1 per cent last month.

MAHB said it expected airlines’ seat filings for the next six months to show some moderation for the international traffic segment and an upswing for the domestic travel sector.
