SELANGOR Umno has submitted four names to the party’s leadership for consideration to contest the Sungai Kandis by-election on Aug 4.

Its state liaison committee chairman, Tan Sri Noh Omar, said the names were chosen during a meeting between Umno division heads on Wednesday.

“The names have been sent to Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for his consideration.

“I have met him and we had a discussion about it.

“Selangor Umno, in the meeting, agreed to use the party’s logo for this by-election.

“But it all depends on the party leadership,” he said, after handing out goodies to haj pilgrims from the Tanjong Karang constituency.

“We will support any candidate chosen by the party.

“We will also introduce a new theme during the campaign, which is ‘vote Umno if you want Pakatan Harapan to fulfil its promises’.”

In Hutan Melintang, Zahid said the candidate’s name for the byelection would be announced later.

He, however, declined to comment on the party’s chances.

“Let us name the candidate first.”

In Shah Alam, PKR’s local election machinery member, Saribanon Saibon, said voters from Sungai Kandis hoped any candidate fielded there would be someone from the area.

“We need a representative who will represent thepeople here, who knows what is important for the people here and what we need.

“That can only come from a candidate who is from here and not an outsider.”

Saribanon said only a local candidate could continue the good work of the late Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei.

He said the people and voters wanted a local who was humble, a good listener and who would serve the people.
