MAN, 71, CHARGED WITH RAPING 2 GRANDKIDS
Ipoh man faces 20 years’ jail and rotan
A71-YEAR-OLD man was charged at the Sessions Court here yesterday with molesting and raping his two granddaughters last June.
The accused pleaded not guilty to both charges, which were read separately in Punjabi in front of judge Datuk Julie Lack Abdullah.
For the first charge, he was accused of committing a sexual act on his 6-year-old granddaughter. The offence was committed in his house in Desa Chemor Permai here between 7pm to 7am from June 3 to 6.
He is charged under Section 376B of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
For the second charge, he was accused of sexually molesting his other granddaughter, 5.
He is charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children, Act which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years and rotan upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Naidatul Athirah Azman prosecuted while the accused was represented by Sukhdev Singh.
Naidatul applied to the court to disallow bail for the accused in view that both victims were his grandchildren.
Sukhdev appealed for bail on medical grounds and said the victims were not living with him.
Julie allowed bail to be set at RM10,000 for both charges with one surety.
She also placed an additional condition, cautioning the accused to not have any contact with the victims.
The case is up for mention on Aug 13.
