Association’s proposals for Azmin
KUALA LUMPUR: The issue of elevating Malaysian entrepreneurs at Asean level would be one of the several proposals the Association of Asean Merchants would be taking up with Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Its president Datuk Moehamad Izat Emir said the association would also include efforts to upscale Bumiputera traders and create opportunities to penetrate the region’s market in an extensive and efficient manner.
In addition, the association would urge the government to focus on sectors such as plantation and agriculture, engineering and production of sports equipment through cooperation between the 10 Asean members.
“We hope to hold meetings and discussions with the ministry as it would boost the country’s economic growth.
“All proposals are aimed to promote better cooperation in the economic and trade sectors between Asean countries.
“The focus on some areas must be accelerated as it can benefit local and region’s entrepreneurs,” Moehamad Izat told NST Business, here, yesterday after the opening of the International Conference and Exhibition GRC Consulting Services and Business Sustainable Institute.
Moehamad Izat said cooperation between entrepreneurs in Asean would result in higher economic development.
He said the exchange of technology was feasible as each Asean member country had expertise in a particular field.
“Asean communities have the skills in agriculture, livestock and farming. So this is the best platform for any joint venture.
“We plan to do work tours and bring local entrepreneurs to learn to improve existing skills,” said Moehamad Izat.
He said the four-month-old Asean Merchant’s Association was a platform to help local entrepreneurs penetrate regional markets.
