Mifa hope to create upsets
for the Malaysia Cup is already an achievement for Premier League side Mifa.
And the club are not setting a target for the country’s most prestigious football competition.
K. Devan’s side will open their Group C campaign against Super League champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Baru tomorrow.
Mifa, the former FAM Cup champions, did well to finish third in the Premier League behind champions Felda United and Felcra.
It will not be easy for Mifa as they also have Kedah and Kelantan in the same group and many see them as no-hopers.
Devan will rely on the experience of S. Subramaniam to lead the team where they hope to upset the form book.
“This is a new experience for the team. For most players in the squad, this will be their maiden appearance in the Malaysia Cup,” said Subramaniam yesterday.
“I hope to share my experience and knowledge with the boys to ensure they are not afraid to take on the big boys.
“No doubt, we are in a tough group as all three teams (JDT, Kedah and Kelantan) have won the Malaysia Cup before, but we will try our best to produce respectable performances.
However, Mifa may just pull off a surprise at Larkin as JDT will be without several key players who are with Ong Kim Swee’s Asian Games-bound squad.
“We almost secured a Super League slot but luck was not on our side. It is not a big disappointment as we did not target top two finish in the recently concluded Premier League season.
“The target was only to qualify for the Malaysia Cup and we achieved it. There is no pressure now,” Subramaniam added.
