Programme helps people appreciate country’s history

-

BUKIT MERTAJAM: The “MyMerdeka Sayangi Malaysiaku” programme can help Malaysians reminisce the country’s history, said state executive council member Dr Afif Bahardin.

He said awareness among the people should be instilled while they were young as shallow thinking could create rifts and misunderstanding.

“It is hoped that the programme will sow love for the country, regardless of race, religion and political belief,” he said after launching the programme at Mydin Mall here yesterday.

Present were State Secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus, Communications and Multimedia Ministry under-secretary (management) Datuk Samsuni Mohd Nor and Information director-general Datuk Ibrahim Abdul Rahman.

The programme was organised by the Information Department in conjunction with Bulan Merdeka. It is an expedition programme that aims to disseminate information on the country. Mydin is its strategic partner.

Samsuni said the programme, now in its third year, was capable of creating a society with a towering personality that understood and accepted the philosophy and policies of the country.

He said various programmes would be carried out , including exhibitions on the country’s history and its Malay rulers, as well as quizzes.

The programmes would be held at Mydin in USJ, Subang Jaya (Aug 16 to 19) Mydin in Meru Raya, Ipoh (Aug 30 to Sept 1), Mydin in Mutiara Rini, Johor (Sept 6 to 8), and Mydin in Petrajaya, Sarawak (Sept 14 to 16).
