3 home renovation mistakes to avoid

-

JOHOR BARU: Homeowners should avoid three mistakes while renovating homes for investment.

This is to ensure their houses can be easily rented to generate reasonable returns.

Mamy Home founder Amin Yusoff said the three mistakes made by homeowners were causing them to bear the high costs besides not being able to rent or sell their properties quickly.

“Firstly, homeowners spent more money than they were supposed to when renovating their home for investment purposes.

“Unlike houses for own occupancy, homes for investment need to be renovated according to the appropriate market segments.

“Secondly, renovation is often made according to the home owner’s needs and preferences, causing those who want to buy or rent seeking to change the design, which will eventually burdened the homeowners.

“Thirdly, last-minute change of mind that leads to homeowners spending more than the initial plan.

“If homeowners spend too much, the investment returns will take a long time.

“Therefore, homeowners must focus on minimising costs, but at the same time, create a high impact with the renovation,” he said while delivering his talk, “House Renovation for Investment”, at the second day of the MyRumah Property Showcase at Komtar JBCC here yesterday.

Amin said he hoped Malaysians would take heed of the common mistakes and understand that design is a way of life and to carry out renovation that can improve the quality of their lives.
