PINTAR Foundation has raised RM60,000 from ticket sales in the charity screening of the movie Pulang. The amount will be donated to programmes and activities under the non-profit organisation’s national programme, which includes improving the educational achievement of students from underperforming schools.

Pintar trustee Tan Sri Dr Wan Mohd Zahid Mohd Noordin said the foundation was on the lookout for initiatives and opportunities to raise fund for its charity causes.

“The main objective of the charity screening is to raise funds to continuously organise programmes and assist under-previleged schools.

“We hope companies out there will consider adopting an underperforming school under the Pintar programme and individuals can consider making a contribution to the programme via our online fundraising platform (www.mypintar.com.my),” he said in his speech at the screening here yesterday.

Some 350 guests were invited to the screening at MBO Cinemas in Starling Mall.

Present were Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik and his wife, Primeworks Studios chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar and his father, Omar Othman, and New Straits Times Press (NSTP) Bhd chief commercial officer Alfian Talib.

Other notable personalities at the screening were singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza and her husband, Datuk Seri Khalid Mohd Jiwa, Pintar Foundation chief executive officer Karimah Tan Abdullah, government officials, business owners and 25 children from the Lighthouse Children Welfare Home.

Pulang is based on a true story of Ahmad Izham’s grandfather, Othman Alias, a seaman who finds work on board a British merchant ship and promises to return home to his wife, Thom Abbas, and their son, Omar Othman (played by Azrel Ismail).

The film directed by Kabir Bhatia, which stars Remy Ishak (Othman) and Puteri Aishah Sulaiman (Thom Abbas), premiered last month.

Produced by Primeworks Studios, a content creation subsidiary of Media Prima Bhd, Pulang is a heavy drama set during the World War 2 Japanese occupation of Malaya.
