ARTOF SPEED2018 DRAW S45,000 STRONGCROW D

Since its inaugural event seven years ago, Art of Speed (AOS) has grown from strength to strength. This year, the show attracted 45,000 visitors to the halls of the Malaysian Agricultur­al and Expo Park Serdang (MEAPS).

Highlights of this year’s event include the Art of Speed Invitation­al Bike Build Off 2018, powered by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas), which saw the champion of last year’s build off maintainin­g his crown this year.

The overall jury pick winner was a customised BMW R75/6 built by Muhammad Khalid Musa from Rusty Factory. The 31-year-old from Ipoh walked away with the Public Choice Award beating out the other 7 builders.

Khalid won a RM10,000 cash prize (jury selection) and a RM5,000 cash prize (public choice).

In conjunctio­n with AOS 2018, Kawasaki Motors (M) Sdn Bhd launched its new Ninja 250 with a starting price of RM23,071.

Next Bike Sdn Bhd, the main distributo­r for Ducati introduced its new Scrambler 1100 with two variants, namely the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Special priced at RM83,000 and the Ducati Scrambler 1100 Sport priced at RM85,000.

Mudah.my, as the official motorcycle marketplac­e for AoS, collaborat­ed with builder Pa’din Musa, who built a custom streetcub that was unveiled at the show.

Hot Wheels, which celebrated its 50th Anniversar­y at AOS 2018 and was represente­d by its global product design manager Dmitriy Shakhmatov, held a meet and greet session at the event. The company also unveiled Car Culture 2019 designs, made in collaborat­ion with RWB Porsche, as well as showcasing a life-sized RWB Porsche 911 which has been made into a Hot Wheels 50th Anniversar­y model.

AoS founder Asep Ahmad Iskandar said this was the best year for the show so far with the organisers fully utilising the 46,000sq m Hall A with a variety of custom and vintage vehicles that were made by Malaysians.

There were 22 categories for cars and 17 for motorcycle­s, as well as numerous other opportunit­ies to display the participan­ts’ talent at converting their vehicles into works of art.

Besides exhibition and launches, test rides sessions were also held for Indian and Royal Enfield bikes.

The attendance of many motorcycle clubs and sales for motorcycle and car items added to the festive like atmosphere of the show.

Attendee Shamsudin Yakob won the lucky draw prize of a tour package to the 27th Annual Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show 2018 in Japan on Saturday, while Mohamad Nasrudin Abdullah took home a C600R Street Cub, which was built by FNG
