ABOUT RM1 million in cash, five cars, 11 motorcycles and various jewellery were seized by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in their probe into 17 security officers of the Prime Minister’s Department.

The assets and cash were believed to come from monies allegedly taken from former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s office.

It is learnt that the total assets seized by the MACC are RM978,800 cash, five cars, 11 motorcycles, five rings, a bracelet, four chain threads, 11 units of mobile phones and electrical appliances.

The five cars are a Volkswagen Golf GTI, three Honda cars and a Perodua Alza.

The seized motorcycles were made up of five Yamaha bikes and the rest Honda.

MACC Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operation) Datuk Seri Azam Baki confirmed the seizure and said the investigating team was in the process of collecting evidence.

He said MACC was conducting a preliminary price assessment process.

The media reported that 17 security personnel allegedly took the money from Najib’s office after discovering Barisan Nasional lost the 14th General Election (GE14) to Pakatan Harapan.

The money reportedly was not deposited in the safe and was allegedly part of Umno’s election fund.

The security personnel were believed to be part of a team working on the night of GE14.

MACC is seeking a five-day remand order against suspects aged between 31 and 51 at the Putrajaya magistrate’s court to assist in investigations under Section 23 of the MACC 2009 Act.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday after their statements were recorded at the MACC headquarters here.

One of them was a Grade 52 security officer, while the others were from Grade 11 to 38.
