SULTAN OF JOHOR: BE MINDFUL OF YOUR MANNERS
Ruler says assemblymen must practise openness and listen to the views of others
SULTAN of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar yesterday reminded assemblymen to be mindful of their manners when debating in the state legislative assembly meetings.
Sultan Ibrahim said each assemblyman must practise openness and listen to the views of others, instead of rejecting ideas that were not in line with their personal and political desires.
“I don’t want the assembly sitting turned into a ‘circus’. I hope the state legislative assembly speaker will carry out his duties diligently and sternly to ensure the debates can be done in a respectful and orderly manner.
“If any assemblyman acts beyond the limit and violates the standing orders, ask him to leave the sitting,” he said in his royal address when opening the 14th state legislative assembly.
Sultan Ibrahim said as a ruler, he would continuously monitor the state government and offer advice and views to the menteri besar and the government under his administration.
“An important matter that I would like to stress is the government’s efficient and prudent financial management to ensure that it is able to control the expenditure and ensure it does not exceed the revenue,” he said.
He also reminded the state government to practise caution in decision making and remain uninfluenced by demands made by outsiders who did not understand the history of Johor’s style of administration.
“Read and understand the articles in the State Constitution 1895 that has been the foundation of the formation of Johor till this day,” he said.
