Pas may name candidates for two by-elections today

-

M A R A N G: Pas is expected to reach a decision on its candidates for the Balakong and Seri Setia by-elections today, after the party’s meeting.

Its president, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, said Selangor Pas would table its report, including shortlisted candidates, to be considered for the two byelections at the meeting.

He said Pas was open to suggestions on election candidates, including the chances of winning seats, but this would depend on its Selangor chapter.

“Anyone can make suggestions for candidates, including gauging our chances of winning, but the central Pas will rely on the report tabled by Selangor Pas,” he said when commenting on Umno’s suggestion for the Islamic party to field former Selangor menteri besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim for the Seri Setia state seat.

Hadi, who is Marang member of parliament, said this after officiating Pas Youth’s annual convention here yesterday.

Present was Terengganu Pas Youth chief Kamaruzzaman Abdullah.

The Seri Setia and Balakong by-elections will be held on Sept 8, with nomination day fixed for Aug 18.

Both seats fell vacant following the deaths of their incumbents, Professor Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin from PKR (Seri Setia) and Eddie Ng Tien Chee from DAP (Balakong) recently.
