MACC can investigate me, says PSM CEO

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Perbadanan Stadium Malaysia (PSM) chief executive officer Azman Fahmi Osman said he is willing to be investigated by the Malaysian AntiCorruption Commission (MACC) and the National Audit Department.

This follows allegations that he had appointed a crony as a panel contractor of PSM.

He said the appointment of the contractor to PSM’s panel of contractors was done in a transparent manner, through evaluation and approved by PSM’s board of directors.

“Each appointment to the contractor’s panel is made based on their branding and willingness to invest in the upgrading of the Kuala Lumpur Sports City (KLSC) project.”

Fahmi was commenting on the allegations of a businessman with a “Datuk” title who claimed that there were elements of cronyism in the appointment of contractors by PSM.

The businessman, who declined to be identified, claimed that PSM wanted only quarters who were willing to utilise KLSC assets and use its panel of contractors, who imposed rental cost said to be 10 times more than that of the prevailing market.

Fahmi said PSM imposed competitive and affordable rental rates, unless organisers made last-minute booking for events.

He said surcharges were applied to organisers only if they did not use PSM’s panel contractors.

“The rental price is not much different than before. For example, Axiata Arena rental is at a minimum of RM110,000; after upgrading, it costs RM180,000, but there is a discount of up to RM60,000 if it goes through panel contractors.
