KKIA officer in graft probe released on MACC bail

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu Internatio­nal Airport’s (KKIA) commercial executive officer, who was remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday, was released on bail yesterday.

The 56-year-old, who was attached to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), was released on a RM8,000 bail and two sureties.

Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus ordered the suspect to report to the MACC office every month pending investigat­ions.

The officer was detained and remanded on Monday at the district MACC office here to facilitate investigat­ions into an alleged corruption case involving the rental of space at the airport premises.

The man allegedly received between RM500 and RM4,500 for approvals of rental space, for a total of RM36,500.

The payments are said to have been made to one of the suspect’s bank accounts.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides for an imprisonme­nt of not more than 20 years, and a fine of not less than five times the amount of gratificat­ion, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.

MACC’s prosecutio­n team was represente­d by investigat­ing officer Mohd Faizal Abdul Razak, while the suspect was represente­d by PJ Pareira and Ariel Dasan.
