KKIA officer in graft probe released on MACC bail
KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu International Airport’s (KKIA) commercial executive officer, who was remanded by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday, was released on bail yesterday.
The 56-year-old, who was attached to Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB), was released on a RM8,000 bail and two sureties.
Magistrate Cindy Mc Juce Balitus ordered the suspect to report to the MACC office every month pending investigations.
The officer was detained and remanded on Monday at the district MACC office here to facilitate investigations into an alleged corruption case involving the rental of space at the airport premises.
The man allegedly received between RM500 and RM4,500 for approvals of rental space, for a total of RM36,500.
The payments are said to have been made to one of the suspect’s bank accounts.
The case is being investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009, which provides for an imprisonment of not more than 20 years, and a fine of not less than five times the amount of gratification, or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.
MACC’s prosecution team was represented by investigating officer Mohd Faizal Abdul Razak, while the suspect was represented by PJ Pareira and Ariel Dasan.
