Pahang Fun Fair stands test of time

- By Mohamad Azim Fitri Abd Aziz

KUANTAN: For the past 30 years, Pahang Fun Fair had been fuelling the imagination of many children and brought families closer with its games and rides.

Despite the stiff competition from the modern theme parks, it remained resilient and stood the test of time to keep its loyal patrons.

Its manager, Chan Rui Wen, 29, said the family entertainment business had its own charms and advantages to attract visitors.

She said apart from affordable prices for each game, Fun Fair was still a popular choice as it offers attractions suitable for all ages.

“My husband (Yap Wooi Loon, 35) and I took over the Fun

Fair business from our uncle a year ago.

We had previously worked for him to learn the ropes in managing it.

“Even though we receive less visitors compared with in the 1980s and 1990s, we are still able to make some profits. Fun Fair has its own fans,” she said when met at the site in Tanjung Lumpur, here, recently.

Chan, who hails from Kuala Lumpur, said the family entertainment centre offered 15 main games that were suitable for all ages, such as giant swing, haunted house, bumper cars, merrygo-round and rocking ship.

Others include shooting game and guess-the-ball-colour which offered prizes to lucky winners.

“The Fun Fair concept remains the same with visitors required to buy tokens at RM2 each in order to enjoy the games.

“The games are charged at different rates, while cheaper prices are offered for children,” she said.

Chan said in order to remain competitive, Fun Fair operators should come up with new ideas to recapture the people’s attention.

The Fun Fair site in Serambi Teruntum, Tanjung Lumpur, will be operating until Sept 2.
