Weekly salary payments permissible, says Mahfuz
EMPLOYERS can make weekly salary payments as the practice is not against the law.
Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Mahfuz Omar said the government provided regulations for salary payments under Section 19 of the Employment Act 1955 and the National Wages Consultative Council Act 2011.
“According to the law, we have nothing against employers paying weekly salaries.
“The condition is that the limit of wages paid must not exceed one month,” he said when answering a question by Nor Azrina Surip (PKR-Merbok) in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday on whether the government would permit weekly salary payments.
When answering an additional question by Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim (BN-Baling) on the implementation of minimum wage, Mahfuz said it would depend on cabinet approval.
On another additional question, he said 303,713 workers obtained skills certificates through the Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning programme.
He said programmes via JobsMalaysia, including the 3P job placement programme, were organised to ensure that Malaysians could secure jobs.
“Job carnivals are held throughout the year for job seekers and employers.
“Through the JobsMalaysia portal, graduates in skills-based programmes can register online or with the Labour Office,” he said when answering a question by Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin (BN-Padang Besar) on the government’s plans to reduce dependency on foreign labour.
