DAP names Wong Siew Ki for Balakong

-

KUALA LUMPUR: DAP has announced that Serdang Wanita chief Wong Siew Ki is the candidate for the Balakong state seat by-election.

Party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, in announcing her candidacy, said DAP would use the Pakatan Harapan logo for the byelection.

Speaking at the party headquarters here, he said Wong’s candidacy had the consent of PH chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the party leadership and its election steering committee.

The Balakong state seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman, Eddie Ng Tien Chee, in an accident at Km11.7 of the Grand Saga Highway on July 20.

In the 14th General Election, Ng retained the seat after defeating Barisan Nasional’s Lim Chin Wah and Pas’ Mohamad Ibrahim Ghazali with a 35,538-vote majority.

Nomination day is set for Aug 18 and polling day on Sept 8.

Selangor DAP chairman Tony Pua said he hoped Balakong voters would come out in full force to support Wong, 32, and the good work done by Ng.

“I hope all the voters will support DAP and PH, especially for the work done in the constituency. We hope to see a maximum voter turnout.”

Wong said she was happy for the trust the party had in her.

“I am not only contesting to win, but also to continue the good work done by the late Eddie Ng.”

Wong, who is a Subang Jaya Municipal Council member, said she would resign from the post with immediate effect.
