Pride at stake for exponents
national taekwondo exponents will be fighting for pride at the Indonesia Asian Games following the National Sports Council’s (NSC) decision to drop it from their core sport programme last year.
Taekwondo Malaysia technical committee chairman R. Dhanaraj hopes the seven exponents will bring glory to Malaysia as a recognition.
The association have set a two bronze target, and Dhanaraj believes they can achieve it.
“Four years ago in Incheon, we failed to win medals. I think the current target is realistic and achievable.
“The decision to drop taekwondo from the core sport programme is a blow. However, we hope to redeem our pride and prove that our exponents have quality in Jakarta,” said Dhanaraj.
On his squad, he said his exponents have been doing well in competitions.
“They had participated in several meets, including the Asia Poomsae and the Pre-Asian Games, and they produced good performances.
“I hope they will continue their momentum and give their best in Jakarta,” Dhanaraj added.
