In a joint statement yesterday, GAM and Sirim said the collaboration would encompass the development and improvement of products, technology, people and the industry.
It would also allow GAM access to Sirim’s research facilities while cooperation in technical expertise, technology transfer and technical training, enabling them to execute projects or products.
The rationalisation of the collaboration is expected to be completed within two years of the signing.
“Our manufacturing will be able to meet regulatory and market requirements while indirectly enabling us to reduce our production and research and development costs,” said Go Auto Group executive director Datuk SM Azli SM Nasimuddin Kamal.
GAM is the group’s manufacturing arm.
He added that the collaboration was also in line with the National Automotive Policy, which aimed to come up with products that meet international standards and requirements.
Sirim president and group chief executive Prof Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani said areas of collaboration would include development and improvement in capability and capacity of lithiumion rechargeable batteries to replace lead-acid batteries in the automotive market.
“The collaboration is timely in supporting the government’s aspirations and efforts in transforming Malaysian businesses to meet the challenges of Industry 4.0,” he added.
