KUALA LUMPUR: BMW Group Malaysia, the official distributor of BMW and MINI cars in the country, has launched the new BMW i8 Coupé, which is priced at RM1.32 million excluding insurance during the tax-free period.

The car is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine with direct injection and Valvetronic variable valve timing, which channels its power to the rear wheels through a six-speed Steptronic transmission.

An electric motor drives the front wheels via a two-speed automatic gearbox.

The i8 Coupé’s combustion engine produces a maximum output of 231 horsepower (hp) and a peak torque of 320 newton metre. The electric motor has an output of 105 kilowatts.

Together, the output from the electric motor and combustion engine generates 374 hp.

BMW Malaysia said the new i8 Coupé could complete the century sprint in 4.4 seconds with a fuel consumption of 1.8 litres per 100km (l/100km). That equates to 42g/km for petrol CO2 emission and 14 kWh/100km for electric power consumption.

The new BMW i8 Coupé will be available at all authorised BMW i dealerships nationwide from Tuesday.

Every purchase of the i8 Coupé is covered with BMW’s five-year unlimited mileage warranty with free scheduled service programme, two-year/24 month tyre warranty programme for its run flat tyres, roadside assistance and accident hotline, and BMW Group Loyalty+ Mobile App — BMW White Card and BMW Service Online.
