- NURUL FHATIHAH ZAKINAN

“For example, UTeM’s GE achievement from GTS 2016 was 76.34 per cent, but the rate soared to 95 per cent after 12 months of graduation,” he said.

He said a clear example of this can be seen when Infineon and WD took in almost 30 per cent of its engineers from UTeM graduates via its structured industry partnership (SIP) programme.

Goh said the role of the JIM office has also helped improve the lives of communities with unique and highimpact contributions, such as fostering closer ties with the Orang Asli community in Kampung Tuai, Kuala Lipis in Pahang since 2015 via its ‘Community Sharing, Samsung Nanum Village’ programme.

“The programme was the outcome of a collaboration with the Education Ministry, Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) and Samsung Malaysia Electronics (SME) Sdn Bhd,” he said.

He said UTeM has also received an international grant to develop a marketplace application which could bring together Australian Aborigines and the Melaka Orang Asli, which could serve as a platform for the meeting of two cultures.

He expressed hopes that UTeM, especially the JIM Assistant Vice-Chancellor’s Office, can go even further in its efforts to empower innovative momentum in line with the digital revolution and Industry 4.0.

“Our hope and vision is to become game-changers, where the academia can enter the fray and cooperate with the quadruple helix in tandem with UTeM’s vision of becoming a technical university famed globally for its creativity and innovativeness,” he said, noting that the addition of the Public and Private Research Networking (PPRN) showed that the university is able to execute demand-driven innovations.
