Eyin eyes medal
her second Asian Games appearance, wushu athlete Phoon Eyin has flourished in her hunt for a medal.
The 22-year-old, who finished fifth at the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, was her usual cheerful self but now has a different outlook when it comes to facing opponents, especially those from China.
Despite her last competitive stint dating back to September 2017 at the World Championship, Eyin doesn’t feel like her routine is inferior and is ready to do her best.
“Right now I feel good, I eat well, I sleep well and training has been good too,” she said during practice at the venue before competition begins tomorrow.
For Eyin, the Asian Games will be her biggest competition this year before she competes in the World Championship in November, the same competition she won the gold medal in the women’s duilian team event.
At the Asiad, Eyin is to compete in the women’s team jianshu and qiangshu event where representatives from China will be her main opponents.
“This time, there’s China, Korea and they didn’t send the same athletes as the ones seen at the World Championship,” she said.
For World Championship silver and bronze medallist Tan Cheong Min, it’s the best preparation she’s done so far since her inclusion into the national team back in 2013.
“I am ready and up until now, I can say that I am at 100percent and I think it can be better,” said Cheong Min, who is set to compete in the women’s nanquan and nandao event.
