PH, MCA flags go up in Balakong, Seri Setia

-

BANGI: Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) red flags were hoisted outside the nomination centres for the Balakong and Seri Setia by-elections for the first time yesterday.

Also setting a first was MCA, which after many general elections of contesting under the familiar blue-and-white Barisan Nasional symbol, had its flag on display in the hands of party supporters outside the Balakong byelection nomination centre at the Hulu Langat District Office.

Outside the Balakong nomination centre since 8am yesterday, more than 100 supporters of PH and MCA, bearing their party flags, gathered separately, watched closely by policemen.

While MCA supporters held up their yellow star party flag, PH supporters hoisted the whiteand-red Pakatan Harapan flags under the hot morning sun.

Having been forced to use PH component PKR’s blue party logo in the 14th General Election, yesterday marked the first time that the red PH logo appeared in a byelection.

The PH red flags were also visible among its supporters near the Seri Setia by-election nomination centre at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Civic Centre, Petaling Jaya, yesterday.

PH president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the coalition’s use of its new logo in the Seri Setia and Balakong byelections was timely.

She said this marked the first time that PH was using its new logo in the polls, and would continue to do so.

“We will start using our logo from now on and let the people become familiar with it,” she said at the Seri Setia by-election nomination centre.

Dr Wan Azizah said the logo would also be used in the Balakong by-election and hoped all voters in the constituency would welcome it.

The Seri Setia by-election will see Pakatan Harapan’s Halimey Abu Bakar contesting against Pas candidate Dr Halimah Ali.

Wan Azizah, who is deputy prime minister, hoped voters from both the constituencies would exercise their right to come out and vote on polling day on Sept 8.

“God willing, and with the use of our new logo, I hope more voters will turn up to vote in these by-elections compared with the by-election in Sungai Kandis.”
