Reports lodged against Gerakan Muslimah Islam chairman

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Two police reports were lodged yesterday against Gerakan Muslimah Islam Malaysia chairman Wan Asshima Kamaruddin over her alleged remarks accusing ministers of organising a gay festival.

The reports were lodged by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad through his special duties officer, Zulhazmi Shariff, and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Dr Muhajid Yusof Rawa, through his special duties officer, Hisham Fauzi, at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters here.

Zulhazmi said they had lodged the reports based on Wan Asshima’s viral Facebook post.

“We found out about the post after YB (Khalid) forwarded the link to the Facebook post to me on Saturday. When I checked it, the post had been deleted.

“But a video that was attached to the post, accusing ministers of organising the largest gay festival in the country, has gone viral.

“This is a serious accusation as Khalid was not aware of such an event.”

He said police had been urged to conduct an investigation under Section 505 of the Penal Code for statements “conducing to public mischief” as Wan Asshima’s remarks could instigate hatred among people.

He said they would meet with the investigating officer to have their statements recorded.
