Kesavan questions Azmin’s loyalty to Anwar

- By Mohd

KOTA KINABALU: Sungai Siput member of parliament S. Kesavan, who is contesting the post of vice-president in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) elections, is questioning the loyalty of deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Kesavan said he was not confident that Azmin, who is defending his position in the party, really wanted Anwar to be the next prime minister.

He said this was because the economic affairs minister had yet to voice his support for Anwar to take over the premiership from Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“I lack confidence in Azmin as, until today, he has yet to voice support for Anwar to become prime minister,” he said at a party function, here, on Sunday night.

Kesavan said PKR members must therefore support a change in the number two post by giving PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli the victory.

“We do not want a leader who looks loyal but secretly tries to fail the party’s reforms agenda.

“That is why we must support Rafizi for the post of deputy president, to ensure this agenda as well as making Anwar prime minister will be realised.”

Meanwhile, Selayang MP William Leong, who is also vying for the post of vice-president, reiterated his willingness to vacate his seat for Anwar.

“Anwar is more important than me so that is why I have no problem with this,” he said, dismissing talk that he had to sacrifice himself for Anwar.

He said that Anwar was the victim of politics and would have a huge task managing the country as the prime minister in future.

“To me, all PKR MPs who uphold the party reform spirit will have no such issues as it is important to see Anwar become the eighth prime minister.”
