Perodua temporarily halts output of new Myvis

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) has temporarily halted production of its best-selling model — the new Myvi — due to a supply disruption at one of its vendors.

Perodua said this had resulted in 3,000 customers not being able to register their new Myvi before the end of this month.

“We wish to apologise to customers waiting for their new Myvis,” said Perodua Sales Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Dr Zahari Husin yesterday.

“We take full responsibility for this issue and are putting all the necessary measures in place to ensure that production resumes as soon as possible,” he added.

Zahari said the current priority was to deliver the new Myvis to the 3,000 customers who were scheduled to receive their cars before September 1.

But he said allocation for all Myvi orders before June 1 had been completed.

“We understand our customers’ frustration. We are working on suitable compensation for the customers and will get in touch with them via our outlets,” said Zahari.

There has been a surge in demand for vehicles since the Goods and Services Tax was zero-rated on June 1, ahead of the reintroduction of the Sales and Service Tax on September 1.

To date, more than 68,000 Perodua Myvis have reached their owners, out of more than 120,000 bookings collected since the hatchback’s launch in November last year, making it consistently Perodua’s best seller throughout the year.

“The production of our other models are running normally and deliveries of our Axia, Bezza and Alza models continue to be on track. We invite customers to speak to our authorised sales advisers for more information on our models as well as the estimated delivery times of their Myvi,” said Zahari.

Perodua sold 140,000 vehicles between January and last month, representing a jump of 19 per cent over the 118,600 it sold in the previous corresponding period.
