RAMPAGING RAPIDKL BUS DRIVER PLEADS GUILTY TO DRUG CHARGE
KUALA LUMPUR: The RapidKL bus driver, who bulldozed his way through traffic in Jalan Ampang and injured four people, pleaded guilty to drug abuse at the magistrate’s court here yesterday.
Md Khairol Anuar Mohamad, 32, was calm when the charge was read to him before magistrate Noorasyikin Sahat.
He was charged with self-administration of the drug, methamphetamine, after he failed a drug test at the Dang Wangi police Narcotics Department office at 7.40pm on Aug 17.
The offence falls under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and carries a maximum jail term of two years or RM5,000 fine or both, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Amirul Asyraf Abdul Rasid offered RM7,000 with one surety. However, Khairol’s wife, who was present during the proceedings, pleaded for minimum bail, stating that she suffered from health issues and had to support her 8month-old baby.
The court set bail at RM3,000 with one surety and fixed Sept 24 for mention.
Khairol is expected to be charged with traffic offences at the traffic court here next week.
It was reported that the bus had been involved in an accident near AU2 Keramat before speeding through the traffic in Jalan Ampang, damaging seven vehicles along the way.
The incident was believed to have happened when the bus rammed a car and subsequently, into a burger stall in Keramat, before several men on motorcycles gave chase.
Four people were reportedly injured in the 8pm incident on Thursday.
