PKR Central Leadership Council candidate Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid has apologised to Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad for his allegation of attempts to prevent Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim from becoming the next prime minister.

Abdullah Sani said the letter of apology was submitted to Dr Mahathir yesterday, after a 41minute phone discussion with Anwar over the matter.

The Kapar member of parliament said Anwar, who would become PKR president after winning uncontested in the party polls, told him he had a close relationship with Dr Mahathir.

He said Anwar convinced him that Dr Mahathir, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman, would uphold the consensus on the power transition for the eighth prime minister.

Abdullah Sani said he acknowledged that he had dragged Dr Mahath ira long into the power transition issue that he highlighted recently.

“I would like to apologise and hope that my concerns about attempts to prevent the power transition (allegedly) by Dr Mahathir are untrue.

“I am confident that the strengthening of parties in Pakatan Harapan is an agenda that must be upheld and reinforced,” he said at his office here.

However, he said, he would not hesitate to rehighlight the matter should there be a conspiracy to challenge the PH consensus.

“Those who have no relation to PH or attempt to cause the transition of power to fail should stay out (of the matter).”

He said Anwar did not give any specific instruction to write a l etter of apology, but instead asked him to resolve the issue.

“He asked me to solve (the matter). I said I would write a letter and he said, ‘Itu cantiklah’ (that would be lovely).”

Abdullah Sani had claimed that Dr Mahathir and Council of Eminent Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin were the masterminds behind a movement to prevent Anwar from becoming prime minister, assisted by PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
