MILITARY INTEL OFFICER TOLD TO RESIGN

This follows allegations on division’s role in run-up to GE14

-

ASENIOR military intelligence officer has been told to resign after allegations on the role played by the division in the run-up to the 14th General Election surfaced, a news portal reported.

The division, the report claimed, also received RM7 million from then prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak just before the 13th General Election.

The Malaysian Insight (TMI), quoting an armed forces source, said the senior officer’s last day of work would be on Sept 1.

“He was advised to leave and his last day is on Sept 1.

“Why he was advised to leave, that information is confidential,” the source was quoted as saying.

The portal, however, reported that it had learnt that the leave order came after Pakatan Harapan won GE14 and began to investigate 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

The first inkling of such dealings were said to have come from the Sarawak Report website, which claimed that the money was from 1MDB, citing figures it claimed were from the joint task force investigating 1MDB since March 2015 until it was disbanded.

Another source confirmed with TMI the senior officer’s last day, adding that it was not known who his replacement would be.

The portal quoted an unnamed Defence Ministry official as saying: “I am not in the position to say anything, but what you have heard is what I have heard.”
