From homegrown entrepreneur to leading manufacturer
and Science University (MSU) recently awarded honorary degrees to Top Glove Corporation founder and executive chairman Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai and UK-based Accreditation Service for International Schools, Colleges and Universities chairman Dr Maurice K. Dimmock at its 23rd convocation ceremony that took place recently.
Lim, who received the MSU Honorary Doctorate in Entrepreneurship, is a homegrown corporate entrepreneur. He stewarded the company from its modest on-production-line beginnings into its current standing of leading rubber glove manufacturer commanding a 25 per cent global market share.
Dimmock, who was conferred the MSU Honorary Doctorate in Education Management, was recognised for his pioneering contribution setting a global standard in quality accreditation of international education.
At the ceremony, five categories of Special Awards were presented to 53 winners from among the graduating Class of 2018. In total, 551 diplomas, 1,013 bachelor’s degrees, and 36 postgraduate degrees were conferred at this year’s graduation ceremony.
The coveted Chancellor Gold Medal Award went to Bachelor of Biomedical Science (Honours) student Arivananthan Kanakasundar, who received a trophy, RM3,000 and a RM18,000 scholarship for higher studies at MSU.
Bachelor in Counselling and Guidance (Honours) student Nur Kamarina Tajuddin and Diploma in Fashion Design student Era Masturah Ramlee each received the President Award, which comes with a trophy, RM2,00 and a RM15,000 scholarship for higher studies at MSU.
The Mohd Shukri Yajid Outstanding Award, presenting a trophy, RM1,000 and RM10,000 in scholarship, went to Bachelor of Medical Sciences (Honours) student Azral Ismawy Ahmad.
Twenty-four graduates received the Academic Award, and 25, the Industry Award.
The ceremony also presented MSU’s first batch of Diploma in Music Technology graduates as well as trainees of the Royal Malaysian Navy.
