Daim invites residents to discuss Rimba Kiara project
KUALA LUMPUR: Council of Eminent Persons chairman Tun Daim Zainuddin held a meeting with Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI) residents’ representatives on Thursday to discuss the Taman Rimba Kiara development issue.
TTDI residents’ spokesman, Khairuddin Rahim, said Daim had invited them to the dialogue and listened to their grouses on the proposed project, which could have adverse environmental impact.
He said the 30-minute meeting with the residents’ representatives was held at the former finance minister’s office before he held a separate meeting with Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad in the afternoon.
“Our representatives have relayed the relevant facts and (the residents’) opinion on the importance of protecting the greenery here.
“With the meeting, TTDI residents hope the authorities will find the best solution for all, and we are waiting for the next dialogue to be held with the minister,” he said yesterday.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court had granted leave for TTDI community representatives to pursue the judicial review against Kuala Lumpur City Hall over the development.
But the High Court (Appellate and Special Powers) dismissed the stay order filed by TTDI residents against the project.
The Kuala Lumpur High Court, however, recently granted leave to allow the TTDI residents’ representatives to continue with the judicial review against City Hall and developer Memang Perkasa Sdn Bhd, in which Malton Bhd held 51 per cent of its shares.
It was reported that City Hall had issued a notice on the proposed development on a portion of land situated within the 189ha Taman Rimba Kiara.
The proposed development included building eight blocks of 42- and 52-storey serviced apartments, and a 29-storey affordable housing block.
TTDI residents had also asked for the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2020 to be gazetted as soon as possible to prevent such developments from destroying Taman Rimba Kiara and other green areas in the city.
