‘Road upgrade will resolve Balakong’s traffic woes’

-

BALAKONG: The traffic woes that affect Perkampungan Baru Batu 11 in Cheras here will soon be a thing of the past once upgrading work commences next month.

Pakatan Harapan’s Balakong by-election candidate, Wong Siew Ki, said she was told the RM8 million project was expected to be completed within two years.

“This area is known for its major traffic congestion due to several bottlenecks. The developer, which will be upgrading the road, has been informed (about the issue) and they have agreed to undertake the work.”

Wong, 32, said there were no land issues as negotiations with residents were completed long ago.

“It is understood that the upgrading would take up a 800m stretch in the area. There is, however, a small issue. Some premises were built along the affected stretch. The authorities will look into this soon,” she said after conducting checks at the area yesterday.

She said the project, initiated by late Balakong assemblyman Eddie Ng, was important and needed to be done to make way for better traffic flow in the area.

She reminded motorists to practise road safety and exercise patience while the upgrade work was being carried out.

Kajang Municipal Council officer So Lian Kiong, who was present, said the Public Works Department approved the project last week.

“The cost will be borne by the developer. This is one of their corporate social responsibility projects.”

He said the upgrading would be carried out at the bottleneck areas and two U-turns.
