TNG Digital targets more e-wallet users

-

KUALA LUMPUR: TNG Digital Sdn Bhd is expecting more users to sign up for its e-wallet mobile application (app) in the coming months due to the addition of new features.

TNG Digital chief executive officer Syahrunizam Samsudin said among the newly-added features of the e-wallet, users could access information on the Touch ‘n Go (TnG) cards and monitor usage across multiple digital payment avenues.

He said it would also introduce radio-frequency identification pilot feature for toll payment beginning September 3.

“We have 300,000 users of the e-wallet. In the coming months, we believe it will reach 500,000 and that is a good start for us,” said Syahrunizam after the opening of TNG Digital’s new headquarters, here, yesterday.

TNG Digital is a joint-venture between Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd and Alibaba’s mobile payment arm Ant Financial Group.

He said the company was also planning to introduce features for e-hailing and taxi payments using quick response codes.

“One of our key advantages is that we focus on the transportation ecosystem.”

Syahrunizam said TNG Digital planned to officially launch the app in the next few months, pending the outcome of the current trial run.

“We want to monitor the progress, attract more users to come on board and add a couple more features before we officially launch the app,” he said.

Currently, there are about 22 million TnG cards in circulation, including 3.8 million smart tag owners.

TNG Digital was set up in April this year, with Touch ‘n Go holding a 51 per cent stake and Ant Financial the rest. Touch ‘n Go is a 52.2 per cent owned unit of CIMB Group Holdings Bhd.
