PH Seri Setia candidate vows to address housing issues
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan vows to resolve the housing problem in Seri Setia area and upgrade homes to make sure they meet current needs.
Seri Setia PH candidate Halimey Abu Bakar said he would urge the Housing and Local Government Ministry to build more affordable houses for Seri Setia constituents.
“I have met the minister, Zuraida Kamaruddin, about this and we realise that there are space constraints in implementing this proposal. But every problem has a solution.
“I will propose to the government to redevelop old housing areas, such as Kampung Lindungan,” he said here yesterday.
Halimey said housing demand in urban areas rose dramatically after the migration of people from rural areas, causing overpopulation and imbalance in the constituency.
“This phenomenon is seen to be worsening when the cost of living in the city continues to rise.
“This makes it difficult for the younger generation to own a home. This is one of the issues to be addressed if I am elected.”
He said the redevelopment proposed in old housing areas could emulate the redevelopment projects in Kampung Kerinchi in Lembah Pantai.
“I will also take into consideration those who cannot buy a house because they do not have a stable income or because of their age,” he said.
For the urban poor, Halimey said he would propose to the state government to build houses to be rented out to these people for a minimum of RM250.
Halimey is contesting against Pas candidate Dr Halimah Ali in the by-election on Sept 8.
The seat fell vacant after assemblyman and Selangor executive councillor Professor Dr Shaharuddin Badaruddin died on Aug 2 from cancer.
