THREE women managing a home in Bukit Beruntung, Selangor, were detained by police yesterday after a report claiming a teen’s newborn was handed to an adoptive family without her consent, was lodged.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Superintendent Lim Bak Phai said the suspects, aged between 25 and 55, were believed to be owners and caretakers of the home.

He said police seized the home’s registration documents, a laptop and six cellphones.

A Welfare Department officer conducted a check at the premises and rescued a 17-year-old teenager who gave birth at the home on Aug 20.

“Further checks by the department found that nine other pregnant teenagers are also at the home,” he said, adding that the officer then lodged a police report.

The teenager from Senai, Johor, was believed to have been sent to the premises by her parents after they found out she was pregnant.

“The baby was given to an adoptive family without her consent. Her child, however, was returned to her by the adoptive family at 12pm yesterday (Wednesday),” Lim said.
