TAX HOLIDAY PERIOD LIFTS HABIB JEWELS SALES
Jeweller gains from zero-rated GST and growing buying trend during festive seasons
HOMEGROWN jeweller Habib Jewels Sdn Bhd’s sales have risen 30 per cent over the three-month tax holiday period, said managing director Datuk Seri Meer Sadik Habib.
Meer Sadik said besides the zerorisation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) beginning June, Habib Jewels’ sales were also supported by a growing buying trend during the festive season.
“We saw a growing buying trend in the younger generation from our other selling platforms besides the store, such as online shopping websites and television.
“Besides that, buying momentum had grown as consumers took advantage of the tax-holiday period,” he said at Habib’s Merdeka Bazaar, here, yesterday.
The company expects the growing buying sentiment for jewellery to continue for the rest of the year, as it is among items exempted from the upcoming Sales and Service Tax (SST).
“We expect this trend to continue until year-end as consumer confidence increases.
“We are also glad that jewellery remains SST-exempted,” he said.
Meanwhile, Habib Jewels is celebrating its annual Merdeka sales this year with a special 10day sales bonanza that began last Friday and will end on Sunday.
The Merdeka Bazaar is an annual celebration in conjuction with the country’s independence day as a mark of Habib Jewels’ pride as a Malaysian heritage jeweller.
